BBO Project at hvoss - September 2021
The BBO project at hvoss has had a very busy few weeks, with our volunteers taking part in a wonderful celebration event at the Kindle Centre on Wednesday 22nd September, along with all the other projects in Herefordshire.

This was to celebrate everything the project has achieved and featured many moving and inspiring testimonies from people involved, including an hvoss volunteer Louise (pictured baking at the event), one of our star bakers, who talked about her struggles as a blind person over lockdown and how isolated she felt and forgotten, as services shut down and neither her nor her guide dog could navigate social distancing. She also discussed how much she had enjoyed volunteering as a befriender and had progressed to work with the CAB, which helped her get through this difficult time and improve her confidence. Our volunteers ran a stall to promote and sell our ‘Baking a difference’ book and took part in a baking demonstration in the hall, making cheese and fruit scones, using a recipe from the book itself. Attendees at the event, came to watch, learn and ask the bakers about their experience of lockdown and baking online together.

This event was swiftly followed by our long-awaited book launch and opening of the offices at 52 Broad Street, on Saturday 25th September. Our volunteers attended to individually signed copies for people and discuss their experience working with hvoss and their own journies through lockdown as portrayed in the book. It was a proud day for all involved and great to see so much interest generated.

We were particularly grateful to the High Sheriff for attending the event and supporting us. Anyone who hasn’t yet purchased a copy, signed ones are available to buy from our office, please do pop in for a chat and a look at the original artwork from the book on display.
