Hereford City Rotary Club has today launched a fund to support the local response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Members of the club are delighted to be able to support the work of Herefordshire Council and Herefordshire Voluntary Organisations Support Service during these unprecedented times,” said club president Katie Farmer.
“Unfortunately, the club has had to cancel some major fundraising events planned over the coming months and we recognise that this will also be the position for many other local charities and community groups.
“With this is mind, we are launching a fund to help charities and community groups who are helping vulnerable people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
“We realise that there is going to be huge demand for local groups and charities to support people in need, in their local areas. We also realise that these groups will not be able or have time to fund raise.”
In developing this fund, the club has been working closely with hvoss and Herefordshire Council to ensure we have a co-ordinated approach to the club’s activities.
“We are all working together to ensure the best outcome for the funds we raise,” said Katie Farmer.
“We anticipate having a grant application form available early next week and will promote it through Herefordshire Council, hvoss, BBC Hereford and Worcester and various other organisational websites including the Rotary Covid-19 Volunteers Face Book page.
“Please help us to support the local charities and community groups who are doing such wonderful work to help people in need in our local communities.”
“hvoss is working with the Hereford City Rotary Club on the urgent Covid-19 Appeal, said hvoss Chief Executive Will Lindesay DL. “We are all aware of the incredible local community action already happening in all communities across Herefordshire in response to Covid-19.
“Funds raised will enable quick immediate access to small amounts of funding to enable local action groups and voluntary organisations to get on with supporting some of the most vulnerable and isolated." He added: "The Appeal Fund is one aspect of the financial support package we are working on to help ensure financial support to the community sector.
“Funding is a critical issue for community sector organisations of all sizes at this time. “We are working hard to ensure all possible funding is made available to sustain the vital work of local community sector organisations, not only during Covid-19 but in the longer term.”
