Yeleni - A lifeline to many who have felt isolated and lonely

Yeleni Logo

‘Yeleni has been a lifeline to many who have felt isolated and lonely.  The team have gone above and beyond in its support of those living with cancer.  Continuing to provide physical, emotional and mental health support during 2020 and beyond.’

The kind words of a Social Prescriber who has been referring more people to Yeleni Therapy & Support since March 2020.  The Yeleni team has been delighted to be playing an important role in the fantastic community response to the pandemic, through the new virtual and telephone services.

Ordinarily, we welcome people to our centre in Blackfriars Street.  Offering a free programme of complementary therapies and ongoing support to anyone at any age living with any cancer at any stage, we aim to help them live well with and beyond cancer.   We can now also offer free health support to the main carer.

The challenge of Covid-19 saw us adapt our services quickly and effectively to create our, free to all, Virtual Wellbeing Programme and telephone support service which have been very well received.  The posters show the wide variety of activities on offer.  The Tai Chi class has even been attended by a person in Portugal!  We will continue to offer these extended services into the future, as they have proven to be a valuable source of support to those who are living with cancer, shielding, less mobile, off-sick, furloughed or working from home.

Fundraising was an even greater challenge last year.  However, Herefordshire postman Mike Chandler and his companion runners held a Virtual Marathon in October, raising an amazing £27,000.  We are hugely appreciative of his wonderful loyal supporters and the power of social media.

Looking forward, we hope to establish a fundraising team to help secure the continuation of our free support of those living with and beyond cancer.  This will be well supported by the team and our friends.  Please follow/like the Yeleni Therapy & Support Facebook page to hear how much we mean to those who use our service and where you will see that volunteering with Yeleni means finding friendship and fun.    We look forward to hearing from you.  Keep safe.
